The Cast of Cheers

From the same dude who sent me Alright the Captain comes The Cast of Cheers. And you should download this and pump it through your speakers and dance right now. It's angular, it's rhythmic, it sounds like Foals. These guys can play their instruments and their three-minute slices of delicious post-punk will make you move. To be honest, I didn't expect this to blow my mind but then the repeated YING-YING-YING-YING of "Goose" just felt sooooo right. I didn't even get upset about the fact that they describe themselves with the ridiculous-sounding (but surprisingly accurate) tag of "robot rock." Their debut album Chariot is available for free download on their bandcamp so you might not even feel guilty about enjoying this without money.

Alright the Captain

These guys are one of the first bands to actually email me. That's why I'm bringing this blog back from the dead; I felt obligated to promote them. Not like that's a bad thing though. They're three instrumentally talented dudes who sent me their EP, which is available for download from their bandcamp page. It's some frantic instrumental stuff. I'd recommend it for fans of Hella, Tera Melos, Adebisi Shank, et cetera.

Mutiny on the Bounty

This Luxembourg Quartet is quite the band. They're an extremely fun mixture of Math Rock. Quite reminiscent of The Fall of Troy and Blakfish. Their riffs are unpredictable and all over the place, but keep their catchiness, and the yells and vocals are something to sing and/or scream along to. Their time signatures are something I wouldn't recommend even trying to keep up with. I'd recommend this band to anyone who likes fun music with loads of talent involved.

This is Native, a badass Math Rock/Post-Rock/Experimental Post-Hardcore band from Indiana that's gotten some real rep in the underground hardcore world for their new album 'Wrestling Moves'. They're bestest musical buddies with other great Experimental Post-Hardcore band La Dispute, and I saw them both play live together. They sound even more incredible live than they do on this jawdropping album. I'd definitely suggest checking them out and supporting them. I knew I had to when I listened to them, which is why I paid to see them and bought their merch.

Chalk Talk

Chalk Talk are a pair of guys (one from Connecticut, one from Massachusetts) who sing ridiculous lyrics over loud Kinsella-influenced punk rock. I'm probably the only person on the internet making this comparison but they bare some similarities to a band I previously posted: Japandroids. Their debut release Killing Spree came out last year and it puts smiles on the faces of teenage boys.

Yeah, this is a Math Rock/Emotional Hardcore band from Pennsylvania. These guys are really good, and really fast paced. But at the same time, it's kind of chill. This is something that would be great to listen to when just relaxing. If there was such a thing as stoner-screamo, this would fit that description. They did an LP called Thank You Arms and Fingers and just recently released a split with Spires.

BATS

Alright, so this band is BATS, a Progressive Post-Hardcore band that sings about science and anti-theism. They have pretty cool releases, and in my opinion Red in Tooth & Claw is the album of 2009. They're awesome and one of my top Post-Hardcore bands.
